Who We Are

We are the Central Lab for Aquaculture Research (CLAR) which belongs to the Agricultural Research Center (ARC) which belongs to the Ministry of Agriculture. Our vision is to develop rural and desert societies through the transfer of aquaculture advanced technology to the beneficiaries and sharing them results of research and studies in cooperation with sister organizations, concerned authorities, and decision-makers. and our mission is to ensure sustainable development of aquaculture and fisheries in Egypt through research and training. We have ten research departments as follows:

  • Hatchery & Fish physiology
  • Fish production & Aquaculture Systems
  • Fish Nutrition & Feed Technology
  • Fish Ecology & Biology
  • Fish Breeding & Genetic
  • Limnology
  • Fish Processing & Quality Control
  • Fish Health & Zoonosis
  • Fish Extension
  • Fish Economics

CLAR

What We Do

We'll build an Ecohub for producing fish from the most recent aquaculture system which is the In-pond Raceway System (IPRS) and spirulina from spirulina production ponds and make some processing for produced spirulina and for fish processing. We will use spirulina, insect-based protein, and fish by-product to create various fish feed substitutes for fish meal. and then will train beneficiaries on each component of these components.

Specific Objectives

Explore our initiatives

Discover how we're advancing sustainability and innovation in aquaculture through these focused objectives.

Renewable Solutions

To conduct scoping of aquaculture practices in local lakes and rivers (living labs) and to establish four sustainable and innovative agribusiness rural ECOHUBS using renewable solar/wind energy for the production, processing and marketing of aquaculture value chains (fish and selected Spirulina species) and insect species in diverse African countries (WP2), to address AU and EU green deal and trade.

Eco-Fish Tech Optimization

To optimize the production of eco-farmed fish (catfish and tilapia), sustainable feeds and post-harvest technologies using sensors, AI and IoT technology in aquaculture ECOHUBS and living labs sites (WP3).
