Who We Are

The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (FMV) of the University of Lisbon, the largest Portuguese University, is a public Institution of Higher Education, which mission is to develop and communicate science, technology and culture in the area of Veterinary Sciences, for the benefit of Society. FMV is at the forefront of Veterinary Medicine in the country and among the best in Europe, due to the quality of its teaching, research and services, in a dynamic and interactive collaboration with various stakeholders in the community.
Research activities at FMV are carried out within the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research in Animal Health (CIISA) that develops high impact cutting-edge fundamental and applied multidisciplinary research in different areas of animal, veterinary and biomedical sciences. CIISA aims to contribute to unravel the biological principles of animal health and disease, promote sustainable animal production and prevent negative impacts of animals and their products on public health. The CIISA’s Food Technology & Safety Lab team work on the development of novel technologies processes improving food quality and managing proactively the health risks associated to biological and chemical hazards arising from the food chain, particularly on animal origin-foods

What We Do

In the INNOECOFOOD project, FMV is mainly involved with the Aquaculture Stewardship Council (ASC) Certification, Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) and Food Control training. Additionally, FMV also participates in multiple tasks on Work Package (WP) 1, WP2, WP3, WP4, WP5, WP6, WP7 and WP8.
