Deliverable 5.1 Sustainable production of crickets and black soldier fly

Description

Detailed mapping of agricultural by-products or organic waste for optimal and mass production of black soldier fly (BSF), crickets and mealworm has been completed. Major organic waste streams like market waste (fruit and vegetable waste), animal manure, brewery waste, waste from food processors and others have been characterized and evaluated for their suitability for commercial BSF production. For cricket and mealworm, artificial diet comprising of agricultural by-products particularly weeds have been formulated and validated for large scale production. These diets have demonstrated their effectiveness in enhancing
the growth performance, survivorship, and reproductive capacity of these insects.
